Meetings with our authors: Professor Wang Haiyan
On May 21, 2025, the first Central Asian Sinology Forum (Qazaqstan) was held at the Qazaqstan Hotel. Its co-organizers were the “Belt and Road” Scientific and Educational Center, the World Center for Sinology (PRC), and the Almaty Association of Sinologists.
The forum was attended by Professor Wang Haiyan (王海燕) of the East China Normal University of the People's Republic of China. The topic of her report was "Studying China in Central Asia: A Chinese Perspective".
After the forum, Professor Wang Haiyan kindly agreed to meet with the editor-in-chief of the academic journal "Qazaq Historical Review", director of the Institute for Humanities Studies ABDI, associate professor Dr. Qanat Uskenbay. Professor Wang Haiyan is the author of the article “30 Years of Trade and Economic Cooperation between China and Central Asia: Achievements and Prospects” in the third issue of the journal (DOI: https://doi.org/10.69567/3007-0236.2024.3.260.279). This study, based on extensive historical material and statistical data, traces the dynamics of China's relations with the Central Asian countries over a thirty-year period.
During the meeting, Professor Wang Haiyan and Dr. Qanat Uskenbay discussed further prospects for cooperation, agreed on the publication of new research and its topics.
Professor Wang Haiyan is the director of the Qazaqstan Research Center at the School of Politics and International Relations of East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai.
East China Normal University, founded on the basis of several universities in 1951, is one of the largest universities in China.
The Qazaqstan Research Center was established in 2020. Its employees are engaged in training master's and doctoral students, research on the economy, politics, security and social situation in Central Asia, relations between China and Qazaqstan, and other Central Asian states.
