His focus is on environmental problems in Qazaqstan, droughts in the steppe regions, and the construction of mudflow dams in the Qazaq SSR. He also researched the fates of GULAG prisoners and, together with other colleagues, published a collection of documents "The World of the GULAG and Special Settlements: Witnesses from Central and Eastern Europe" (Moscow: Political Encyclopedia, 2016, 192 pp.).
Renowned historian and sociologist Dr. Carole Sigman, author of the book “Political Clubs and Perestroika in Russia: Opposition without Dissidence” (Moscow: Novoye Literaturnoye Obozreniye, 2014, 472 p.), is a specialist in political sociology and studies the transformation of authoritarian regimes in the post-Soviet space.
